What it is

Energy & Utilities is a coming-next humblx module for recording and reviewing a hospital's utility consumption. It will cover electricity, DG sets, water, the STP and LPG, and record medical gas pipeline readings as utilities. Teams will start with manual readings: they will scan the QR code on the meter, enter the value and attach a photo. Connected and IoT meters will be able to join later and appear in the same reports. humblx will show consumption per block, area and occupied bed, flag readings outside the expected range, and produce monthly reports for management and sustainability reviews. It will record utility data only and will not monitor medical devices.

The challenge

Hospitals run round the clock with heavy HVAC, lighting and plant loads, yet meter readings are written in logbooks once a shift or once a day, if at all. Readings are hard to compare across blocks. A running tap or a DG left on is noticed at month end, and the utility bill is the first sign of a problem. Management can't see consumption per occupied bed or which area uses the most.

The humblx solution

humblx Energy & Utilities will digitise readings for electricity, DG sets, water, the STP, and LPG and medical gas pipelines. Teams will start with QR-tagged meters and photo-backed readings on mobile, and connected IoT meters will be able to feed data later. Consumption will be shown per block, area and occupied bed. Unusual readings will raise alerts, and monthly reports will be ready for management and sustainability reviews. Gas pipeline readings will be recorded as utility data, not as medical device monitoring.

Key features

QR meter readings

Scan the meter, enter the reading and attach a photo; missed rounds will be flagged.

IoT meter data

Smart and IoT meters will connect as they are installed, alongside manual readings.

Consumption per bed and area

Electricity, water and fuel use per block, area and occupied bed, against your own baseline.

Anomaly alerts

Readings outside the expected range will alert the facility team.

How it works

  1. 01

    Tag the meters

Each meter (main incomer, sub-meters, DG, water, STP, LPG, gas pipelines) will get a QR code and a place in the block and area hierarchy.

  2. 02

    Schedule rounds

Reading rounds will be set per shift or per day, and missed readings will be flagged.

  3. 03

    Capture

Staff will scan the meter, enter the value and attach a photo. Readings that don't make sense, such as one lower than the last, will be queried when they are entered.

  4. 04

    Connect meters when ready

Smart and IoT meters will send readings automatically and sit alongside the manual ones.

  5. 05

    Normalise

Consumption will be calculated per block, area and occupied bed, using occupancy entered daily or taken from the HIS where connected.

  6. 06

    Alert

Readings outside the expected range will alert the facility team. A likely fault will become a maintenance work order.

  7. 07

    Report

Monthly reports by utility, block and area will support management reviews, bill reconciliation and ESG disclosures.

What it is built to change

  1. 01

    Readings you can trust

Photo-backed readings will replace logbook entries written up after the round.

  2. 02

    Problems found early

Leaks, idle loads and unusual DG running will be flagged when they happen, not at month end.

  3. 03

    Bills you can check

Your own readings will let you reconcile utility bills and query errors.

  4. 04

    Data for sustainability reporting

Consistent consumption records for management reviews and ESG disclosures.

Where hospitals will use it

  • Main incomer, block-wise and chiller plant electricity readings
  • DG run hours and diesel consumption
  • Water intake, STP inlet and outlet, and treated water reuse
  • Kitchen LPG and medical gas pipeline readings, recorded as utility data

Who uses it

  • Electricians and plant operatorsWill take readings on their rounds.
  • Shift engineersWill respond to alerts.
  • Facility and engineering headConsumption trends and anomalies.
  • FinanceWill reconcile utility bills against recorded consumption.
  • COO and sustainability leadMonthly reports and ESG data.

How it connects to the live modules

It will run on the same locations, QR codes, staff, SLAs and dashboards your teams already use.

What we’ll measure

The measures this module is being built to report. We publish results only for modules that are live.

  • Electricity consumption by block, area and hour
  • Electricity and water consumption per occupied bed
  • DG run hours and diesel used per hour of running
  • Water intake, STP inflow and treated water reused
  • LPG and medical gas pipeline consumption, recorded as utilities
  • Missed or late meter readings
  • Anomaly alerts raised and closed
  • Billed consumption compared with recorded consumption

Tailored by sector

The same module, configured for how each type of facility actually runs.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need smart meters to start?

No. You will be able to start with QR-tagged meters and photo-backed readings on mobile, and add connected meters as they are installed. Both kinds of reading will sit in the same reports.

Does it monitor medical gas systems?

It will record medical gas pipeline readings, such as consumption and supply pressure, as utility data alongside electricity and water. It will not be a medical device and will not replace your medical gas alarm system or its safety checks.

How much will we save?

We don't quote savings for a module that isn't live yet. What it will give you is reliable consumption data per block, area and occupied bed, plus alerts for unusual use, so your team can find waste and act on it.

How does it connect to maintenance?

When an alert points to a fault, such as a leaking line or a DG running outside its schedule, it will be raised as a Facility Maintenance work order. Readings for plant such as DG sets and chillers will sit next to that equipment's service history.
