What it is

Porter is a coming-next humblx module for requesting, dispatching and tracking porter jobs inside a hospital. It will cover patient transfers by wheelchair or stretcher, sample runs to the lab, files and documents, equipment, and linen movement. Requests will come from a QR code, the app, the porter desk or WhatsApp. humblx will give each job to an available porter in that zone, and the porter will move it from accepted to picked up to delivered with a scan at each end. Wards will no longer need to call and ask where the porter is. Managers will be able to see turnaround and workload clearly enough to plan staffing.

The challenge

Porter requests come in by phone, at the porter desk and on WhatsApp. The desk gives each job to whoever is free, or whoever picks up. Patients wait in wheelchairs for radiology, samples sit at the nursing station, and wards keep calling to ask where the porter is. Nobody can say how long transfers take, which zones are short of porters, or who is carrying most of the load.

The humblx solution

humblx Porter will take requests from a QR code, the app, the porter desk or WhatsApp and assign them automatically by zone and porter availability. Each job will be tracked from requested to accepted, picked up and delivered, with a scan at pickup and drop-off. Wards will see where their request is, the desk will see every porter's workload, and managers will see turnaround by request type and zone.

Key features

Requests from any channel

QR codes at wards and counters, the app, the porter desk or WhatsApp, with type and urgency.

Assignment by zone and availability

Each job will go to an available porter covering that zone, and the desk will be able to reassign.

Status at every step

Requested, accepted, picked up and delivered: each will be recorded with a time and a scan.

Turnaround and workload

Turnaround by request type and zone, and jobs handled by each porter per shift.

How it works

  1. 01

    Request

A nurse will scan the ward QR code, use the app, call the porter desk or send a WhatsApp message. They will choose the type (patient transfer, sample, document, equipment or linen), the destination and the urgency.

  2. 02

    Assign

humblx will assign an available porter covering that zone. The desk will be able to override the choice.

  3. 03

    Accept

The porter will accept on the app, and the requester will see who is coming.

  4. 04

    Pick up

The porter will scan at pickup. For patient transfers, the mode (wheelchair or stretcher) will be recorded.

  5. 05

    Deliver

A scan at the destination will close the job and record the time.

  6. 06

    Escalate

Jobs that nobody accepts, or that run late, will alert the porter desk supervisor.

  7. 07

    Review

Turnaround by type, zone and hour, and jobs per porter, will feed staffing and shift planning.

What it is built to change

  1. 01

    Fewer follow-up calls

Wards will see the status of their request instead of calling the porter desk.

  2. 02

    Fairer workload

Jobs will be spread by availability, and the data will show who is overloaded.

  3. 03

    Staffing based on demand

Request volumes by hour and zone will show where and when more porters are needed.

  4. 04

    A record of every movement

Each patient transfer, sample and document will show who moved it, and when.

How it connects to the live modules

It will run on the same locations, QR codes, staff, SLAs and dashboards your teams already use.

What we’ll measure

The measures this module is being built to report. We publish results only for modules that are live.

  • Time from request to acceptance
  • Time from request to pickup, and from pickup to delivery, by type and zone
  • Total turnaround by request type and urgency
  • Requests by hour, zone and type
  • Jobs per porter per shift
  • Requests not accepted in time, and escalations

Tailored by sector

The same module, configured for how each type of facility actually runs.

Frequently asked questions

Can wards request a porter without calling?

Yes. Nurses will scan the ward's QR code, use the app or send a WhatsApp message. The request will carry the location, type and urgency, so the porter desk won't have to ask.

How are requests assigned?

By zone and availability. Each porter will cover one or more zones, and a new request will go to an available porter in that zone. The porter desk will see every job and be able to reassign when needed.

Will every porter need a smartphone?

Porters will accept jobs and scan at pickup and drop-off on the humblx mobile app. For teams where not every porter has a phone, we'll work out shared-device or desk-updated setups with early-access hospitals.

How is this different from wheelchair requests in Desk Management?

Desk Management already takes wheelchair and stretcher requests as tickets. Porter will add what a porter team needs on top: dispatch by zone, scans at pickup and drop-off, live status for the person who asked, and workload per porter.
