Hotel Room Inspection Checklist
Run this check in the gap between the attendant reporting a room as done and front office seeing it as vacant-ready. One supervisor, one pass, one standard: what a guest will see and touch, what could make them unwell, and the small engineering faults that otherwise surface as a late-night call to the duty manager. If any line fails, the room stays on hold until it is fixed and rechecked.

How to run this checklist well
- Walk every room in a fixed loop, for example door, bed, desk, window, bathroom, so a rushed inspection still covers every point.
- Fix a QR code inside the room for the supervisor to scan; it time-stamps the inspection and names the inspector, which a paper sign-off sheet cannot prove.
- Take two photos per inspection, the made bed and the bathroom from the doorway. They settle finish disputes and double as training material for new attendants.
- Inspect expected arrivals and VIP or long-stay rooms first, so front office is not holding guests in the lobby waiting for rooms.
- Every week, list the three items failed most often and the attendants who missed them, and coach on those only.
- Send maintenance faults straight from the inspection to engineering as work orders, so the technician knows the room and the problem before taking the service lift.
Frequently asked questions
How often should a hotel supervisor inspect rooms?
The common practice is to inspect every checkout room before it goes back on sale, plus a sample of occupied stayover rooms on each shift. Some hotels let experienced attendants release their own rooms and have supervisors audit a share of them. Either way, log the inspector and time so front office can trust the room status.
What is the difference between room cleaning and room inspection?
Cleaning is the attendant servicing the room. Inspection is a second person checking the result against the property standard and looking for faults. Splitting the roles means someone with fresh eyes catches the hair on the pillow, the dead bulb or the forgotten phone charger before the next guest opens the door.
Should maintenance faults be part of a housekeeping inspection?
Yes. Supervisors enter every room daily, so they spot a dripping health faucet, a weak AC or a safe that will not lock long before engineering would. Log each fault as a work order with the room number and a photo, and hold the room from sale if the fault would affect the guest's stay.
