Office Cleaning Checklist
Use this checklist to run and verify routine cleaning across an office floor, from desks and meeting rooms to pantries and washrooms. It suits hybrid workplaces where occupancy changes day to day, so the supervisor can prove that door handles, lift buttons and shared equipment were wiped on days when only a handful of people came in.

How to run this checklist well
- Place a QR code in each zone so staff scan in and out; the timestamp and a photo replace the paper log on the back of the door.
- Agree with the facilities team which desks are 'clean only if clear', so cleaners do not have to handle personal items.
- Schedule a short mid-day round of pantries and washrooms on high-occupancy days instead of adding cleaners for the whole shift.
- Use colour-coded cloths (for example, one colour for washrooms, another for pantries) and check them during the supervisor walk.
- Review missed items weekly; repeated gaps in one zone usually point to a staffing or route problem, not a single careless cleaner.
Frequently asked questions
How often should an office be cleaned?
Plan for one complete pass on every working day, finished before the first shift walks in, and a short top-up round around lunch for the busiest washrooms and pantry. Desk wiping can follow booking data in a hybrid office, but entrances, lifts and shared rooms stay on the fixed daily round. Carpet shampooing, chair upholstery and high-level dusting go on a separate periodic plan set by footfall.
What are high-touch points in an office?
In an office these are the small items that dozens of different hands reach for: door pulls and push plates, lift call buttons, card readers, light switches, hot-desk keyboards, meeting-room phones, microwave and fridge handles, and pantry taps. Disinfect them at least once a day and step up the rounds when a cold or flu wave is going round, since they pass on far more germs than walls or desk tops.
Who should sign off the office cleaning checklist?
The housekeeping supervisor should sign off after a walk-through, not the cleaner who did the work. In larger buildings the facility manager reviews completion rates and spot-checks a sample of zones each week. Digital checklists with timestamps and photos make this review faster and give a reliable record if a complaint comes in later.
